Abstract:
Maintaining the quality and safety of agricultural products for export is paramount, especially in the face of pest threats. Electron beam irradiation effectively controls Bactrocera dorsalis (B. dorsalis) infestation in dragon fruit, particularly when combined with hot water treatment (46.5C for 40 minutes). This combined approach maintains fruit morphology and significantly reduces B. dorsalis hatching, pupation, and adult emergence rates. A radiation dose of 1 kGy, aligned with international phytosanitary standards, minimally impacts total soluble solids (TSS) and total acidity (TA) while preserving vitamin C content. However, ascorbic acid content gradually decreases during storage, necessitating a balance between preservation efficacy and nutritional quality. This study elucidates the potential of electron beam irradiation as a safe and effective phytosanitary treatment for dragon fruit, ensuring compliance with international export
standards while minimizing adverse effects on fruit quality.
