Abstract

Community-based tourism (CBT) is absolutely considered as a highlighted tourism type of sustainable tourism development targeting three important goals for benefits of economic growth, environmental protection and cultural preservation. The essence of CBT emphasizes community empowerment in tourism development. Therefore, local community participation at different levels not only contributes to enhancing their perception, improving their quality of life but also helps to preserve local culture. Don Duong district is located about 30km far from Dalat city and belongs to the tourism clusters of Dalat and its vicinity, in recent years, Don Duong has been developeing CBT based on its natural and cultural resources, especially Churu authentic culture. However, local participation here is relatively limited and in a passive manner. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the real situation of local community participation in CBT and to suggest some practical solutions for encouraging local participation in CBT development in Don Duong district.
